The Kemenuh Pavilion was an interesting project to work on. The region of Kemenuh is located 10 minutes from central Ubud, Bali. Therefore, it’s a perfect escape into the jungles away from the crowds. Even so, it still has comfortable accessibility to tourist areas and the town of Ubud. The site on its own offers challenges for construction and design. Even so, the limitations of the site in return are balanced by the stunning views towards a valley. The valley overlooks a 270-degree vista of trees and a river at the bottom. Even though there is a 60-degree slope, we want to allow an access pathway from the top to the very bottom of the site almost touching the water.
Location: Kemenuh, Bali
Stage: Concept Proposal
Year: 2018
Function: Bedroom Pavilion
Land Area: 450sqm
Building Area: 50sqm
We started the project by getting a complete understanding of the site. After this, we made intense studies to achieve our target which was to create one of the most stunning rooms in Ubud. As several ideas came to mind, we decided to approach this pavilion differently than what we usually do, sticking the building deep into the ground and making it fly into the valley with almost 360-degree tropical views.
