The Kemenuh Pavilion was an interesting project to work on. The region of Kemenuh is located 10 minutes from central Ubud, Bali and therefore a perfect escape into the jungles away from the crowds while still having accessibility to civilization. A small yet challenging site to fit a one bedroom suite with stunning views towards a valley into a river. The site with it’s almost 60 degree slope was narrow and needed to allow an access pathway from the top to the very bottom of the site almost touching the water.
"I hate being put in a box labelled 'tropical house.'"
We started the project by getting a complete understanding of the site. Intense studies have been made to achieve our target which was to create one of the most stunning rooms in Ubud. As several ideas came to mind, we decided to approach this pavilion differently than what we usually do, sticking the building deep into the ground and making it fly into the valley with almost 360 degree tropical views.
