“Nyuh” is the Balinese word for coconut, its tree plays an important role in Balinese daily and religious life. Almost every part of the coconut tree is valuable. Other than ceremonial and ritual use, coconut also has an economic value, almost every part of the tree can be processed into commodity such as coconut oil, coconut fiber, coconut base food, coconut wood and so on. In Bali, the coconut tree is also a symbol of sustainable and regeneration. In the past when a Balinese young man grows mature and was ready to have a family, his father would give him a coconut tree that is then grown in the family land and to be used later as construction material for his new house.
