"Away, away, from men and towns to the wild wood and the downs, to the silent wilderness, where the soul need not repress its music"
The land of Tunak spreads along 90 hectares of hills and valleys. Stunning beaches and cliffs surround the bay. It is also home to a variety of deer, exotic butterflies, and other wildlife. Keeping this in mind, the beautiful landscape is open to the sunset sun from the west.
The government of Indonesia wants to create an eco resort that is respectful of the protected forest. To achieve this, our idea for this project was to integrate all the animal wildlife into the experience. Additionally, we want to do as minimal construction as possible. We started by looking at the traditional construction methods of Indonesia. We have studied ways of constructing with minimal impact. Hence, the wood construction became our starting point in approaching this project.
As we mentioned before, respect for nature is key to this project. Therefore, we have designed every building using wooden structures sitting on stilts at least 1 meter above ground. By doing so, wildlife can pass underneath the buildings. In addition, we propose to use traditional wooden houses of Indonesia.
As an eco resort, the 20 private villas will be re-using traditional joglo houses from Java, Indonesia. These structures will be facing the open ocean to the South. The idea of using re-used wooden houses is to strengthen the concept of being sustainable and respectful to nature. Additionally, large and spacious bedrooms, open bathrooms with outdoor showers and gardens, wide decks, and a small cabana are incorporated into each villa giving a luxurious atmosphere to the resort’s experience.
